Practicing at Home:
Hey kids! Want some
ideas on how to make your next Little League season a better experience?
Start practicing NOW! Try to talk mom and dad into bringing you to the
Sunday morning clinics or see if someone can give you a ride to them. You
don't have to have green grass and be outdoors!
Don't forget to condition your glove now so it will be ready for the season!
Always ask your parent's permission before
you start any of these suggestions! Let's say your home bored and don't have
anyone to play ball with. Try these tips out:
Practice your swing: Make sure you have PLENTY of room
around you. Hold the bat over your shoulder, just about an inch and upright
(not flat). Picture the pitch coming at you and swing - a nice, flat swing
all the way around keeping both hands on the bat at all times. Now, do it
again, and again, and again!
Practice your eye/hand coordination: Laying on the floor or
on your bed with your fielding glove on, lightly toss a ball up in the air
by letting it roll off your fingertips and catch it in your glove. You don't
have to throw it up high and you don't have to use a baseball, you can use a
tennis ball or even a wadded up piece of paper so mom won't get mad. Repeat,
repeat, repeat!
Practice your throw: Good luck getting mom's permission for
this one with a baseball, so maybe you should try a tennis ball instead. Set
a bucket on it's side on a chair or even the couch and throw the ball
overhand - carefully - and try to get it in the bucket. Once you've mastered
from a short distance, take a step back and try again. Now do it again, and
again, and again!
The season is going to start before you know it, get started now!
